Dr. Birman graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, MO where he obtained Bachelor of Science degrees, summa cum laude, in biomedical engineering and chemical engineering. He completed his medical degree with honors at Baylor University and then completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. Dr. Birman completed the Hand & Microvascular Surgery program at Columbia University in New York. He is board eligible by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Birman has many publications in peer reviewed journals. He has participated in many podium presentations. 

His practice is limited to surgery of the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. Dr. Birman speaks conversational Russian.
